Music and memory

Questions for the music of your life.

A song can take you somewhere before you have decided to go. These questions start from the music and end up at the people, the rooms and the years it was playing in.

How to use them

  1. Pick one. Not the best one. The one that made you pause.
  2. Say it out loud for two minutes, or write until you run out.
  3. Give it a rough time: an age, a house, a season. Guessing is fine.
  4. Leave it there. Come back tomorrow for another.

Start from a song

  1. What song takes you somewhere the moment it starts, and where does it take you?

    Answer it
  2. What music filled your childhood home? Who chose it, and what was happening while it played?

    Answer it
  3. Which song belongs to a person? Write about them, not the song.

    Answer it
  4. Is there a song you can no longer listen to? What did it get attached to?

    Answer it
  5. What was playing during a first: first love, first job, first time far from home?

    Answer it
