Terms of Service

By creating an account or using Lapriland, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.

1. What Lapriland is

Lapriland is a private, personal journalling service. You write entries, place them in time, organise them, and optionally ask software to generate written reflections about them.

Lapriland is not a healthcare service, a medical device, a counselling service, a crisis service, or a substitute for any of them. See §4, which is the most important section here.

2. Your account

• You need a valid email address and a password. One account is for one person; don’t share your login.
• Keep your password to yourself. You’re responsible for what happens under your account, and for the accuracy of the details you give us.
• Tell us at [PLACEHOLDER: contact email] if you think someone else has got into it.
• You must be at least [PLACEHOLDER: minimum age] years old.
• If you forget your password, use Forgot password? on the sign-in page: we email a single-use link to the address on the account, and it expires after an hour. If you no longer have access to that mailbox, contact us at [PLACEHOLDER: contact email] and we will help you regain access by [PLACEHOLDER: describe your identity-verification process].

3. Your content

You keep everything. Your entries, photographs and everything else you put into Lapriland remain yours. We claim no ownership of any of it.

You grant us only the narrow, revocable licence we need to actually run the service: to store your content, to display it back to you, to back it up, and, only when you request a reflection, to transmit the relevant parts to our AI provider so that reflection can be generated. That licence exists for no other purpose and ends when you delete your content or your account.

And because you keep everything, you are also solely responsible for everything you put here. We do not review, moderate, approve or verify your content, and we are not a party to it. By uploading content you warrant to us that:

• you have the right to upload it, particularly photographs of, or writing about, other people (journals about a life are inevitably about other people too; please be thoughtful);
• it does not infringe anyone’s copyright, privacy, confidentiality or other rights;
• it is not unlawful to possess or store in your country or ours; and
• where an entry contains information about your health, beliefs, relationships or other sensitive matters, you are including it by your own choice and you consent to us storing it and, only when you request a reflection, processing it as described in §4 and the Privacy Policy.

Any dispute about the substance of your content (what you wrote, who it describes, whether you were entitled to write it) is between you and whoever raises it. Our role is limited to storing and displaying it for you, and §9 applies.

4. AI reflections are not advice. Please read this one

Lapriland’s reflection features use a large language model to generate text about what you have written. They can be genuinely useful. They are also, unavoidably, the following things:

• Not professional advice of any kind: not medical, not psychological, not psychiatric, not therapeutic, not legal, not financial.
• Not a diagnosis. Nothing Lapriland produces is an assessment of your mental health, and it must not be read as one. Where the software discusses patterns in difficult or formative experiences, it does so as an observer, not a clinician, and it is explicitly designed to avoid diagnostic language.
• Not a substitute for professional care. If you’re dealing with trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, or anything else that’s affecting your life, please talk to a qualified professional. Lapriland is not one and cannot be one. Nothing it says should ever delay you seeking help, or replace advice you’ve been given by someone who is actually qualified to give it.
• Sometimes simply wrong. Language models can misread, overreach, and state things confidently that aren’t true, including about your own life. Treat every reflection as one reading of your words, not a verdict on them. You know which parts are right.

If you are in crisis. If you are thinking about harming yourself or someone else, or you are in immediate danger, please stop and contact your local emergency number or a crisis line now. Lapriland cannot help you, does not monitor entries for signs of distress, and no person will see what you write here in time to intervene. You agree that you use the reflection features knowing all of this, and that you take responsibility for what you do with what they say.

5. Acceptable use

Please don’t:

• Use Lapriland to store or distribute content that is unlawful, or that sexually exploits or endangers children. In particular, do not upload child sexual abuse material of any kind
• Use it to harass, threaten, defame or stalk anyone
• Upload content you have no right to upload, or that infringes someone’s copyright
• Try to break into another account, or to access data that isn’t yours
• Attack, overload, probe or attempt to circumvent the service’s security or its plan limits, including by automating account creation
• Scrape it, resell it, or use it to build a competing product
• Deliberately upload malware

We may suspend or terminate an account that does any of this, and where the law requires it, report it.

6. Plans, credits and payment

The free plan is genuinely free and requires no payment details. It carries the limits shown on the pricing page: a monthly allowance of AI credits, a cap on the number of entries, and a storage cap. Reaching a limit prevents you from adding more of that thing; it never deletes, hides or locks anything you have already written, and export is always available.

Credits. Every AI action costs a whole number of credits, shown on the pricing page and beside the action itself. Everything that is not AI is free of charge. Credits are prepaid, are tied to your account, cannot be transferred to another account, and have no cash value: they are a right to use the service, not money on deposit. Your plan’s monthly credits are added at the start of each calendar month and expire at the end of that month, used or not. Credits bought in a one-time pack expire twelve months after purchase. When you spend, the soonest-expiring credits are used first. If an AI action fails or times out, its credits are returned to you automatically.

A pack can be refunded in full within 14 days if none of it has been used; once any credit from a pack has been spent it is not refundable, and the full policy is on our refunds and cancellation page. If a payment is reversed after some of a pack has been used, whether by refund or by chargeback, we remove the credits remaining from that pack and charge the used portion back against your balance, which may leave the balance below zero. AI actions are unavailable until the balance is positive again; nothing you have written is affected, and reading, writing, editing and export continue to work. We may also apply a fair-use ceiling on the number of AI actions in a day to protect the service, and we will tell you when you reach it.

Pro is a paid subscription at the price shown on the pricing page at the time you subscribe (currently USD $6 a month or USD $48 a year), billed in advance for each period and renewing automatically until you cancel. Payments are taken by Paddle.com Market Ltd (“Paddle”), our merchant of record: Paddle is the seller on your receipt, collects your payment details, applies any VAT or sales tax for your country, and its buyer terms apply to the transaction alongside these terms. We never see your card number.

You can cancel at any time from Settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Pro stays on until the end of the period you have already paid for, after which your account becomes a free account with everything you wrote intact. Annual subscriptions can be refunded in full within 14 days of payment; monthly subscriptions are not refunded for part-months. The full policy is on our refunds and cancellation page, and where consumer law in your country gives you more, that law applies. If a renewal payment fails, Paddle retries for a period during which Pro remains on; if payment ultimately fails, the subscription ends and the account reverts to Free.

We may change prices or plan limits. A price change applies from your next renewal and we will tell you before it does; if a limit change would reduce what you already have, we’ll give you reasonable notice first.

The credit cost of an action may change. The AI models behind the service are bought from a provider whose prices can rise, and new models appear. If we need to raise the number of credits an action costs, we will post the new costs on the pricing page and email account holders at least 30 days before they apply. Credits you already hold keep their count; only actions taken after the change are priced at the new rate. We may also switch the underlying model, or pause an AI feature for a short time, to keep the service sustainable, and we will say so on the pricing page. Your writing, your photographs and your export are never affected by any of this.

7. Availability, and “as is”

We’ll do our best to keep Lapriland running and your data intact, but:

Lapriland is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do not warrant that the service will always be available, that it will be free of bugs, or that any AI-generated output will be accurate, complete or useful.

Lapriland is not a backup service. We take reasonable operational care of your data, but you should export your journal regularly and keep your own copy. The export feature exists for exactly this, it’s free, and it takes one click. Please use it.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

• We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, or data, however caused.
• Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to Lapriland is limited to the greater of [PLACEHOLDER: amount, e.g. USD 50] and the total amount you actually paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. On the free plan, that amount is [PLACEHOLDER: amount].
• We are not liable for anything arising from your reliance on an AI-generated reflection. See §4.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

9. Your responsibility for your content (indemnity)

If a third party brings a claim against us because of content you uploaded or something you did through your account (for example, a claim that an entry defames them, that a photograph infringes their rights, or that your use of Lapriland broke a law that applies to you), you agree to indemnify us: to cover the losses, damages and reasonable legal costs we actually incur from that claim, provided that it arises from your breach of §3 or §5 rather than from our own failure to meet these terms.

We’ll tell you promptly about any such claim, won’t settle it on your behalf without your agreement, and will take reasonable steps to keep costs down. This section is the flip side of §3: your journal is yours alone, in ownership and in responsibility.

[PLACEHOLDER: some consumer-protection regimes (notably the EU/UK) restrict indemnities against consumers, especially broad ones. This clause is drafted narrowly on purpose. Keep it tied to breach, and have it reviewed.]

10. Termination

You may stop using Lapriland at any time, and may ask us to delete your account and everything in it (see the Privacy Policy). Export first, because deletion is permanent.

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, or where we’re required to by law. Except where a serious breach or a legal obligation makes it impossible, we’ll give you notice and a reasonable chance to export your journal first.

If we ever discontinue Lapriland, we’ll give account holders at least [PLACEHOLDER: e.g. 60] days’ notice so that everyone can export their data.

Sections 3 (your ownership and responsibility), 4, 7, 8, 9 and 12 survive termination.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is material, we’ll update the effective date and notify account holders by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Lapriland after that means you accept the new terms; if you don’t, please export your journal and close your account.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [PLACEHOLDER: jurisdiction], and the courts of [PLACEHOLDER: jurisdiction] have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
